An Intelligent System for False Alarm Reduction in Infrared Forest-Fire Detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
FOREST FIRES CAUSE MANY ENVIronmental disasters, creating economical and ecological damage as well as endangering people’s lives. Heightened interest in automatic surveillance and early forest-fire detection has taken precedence over traditional human surveillance because the latter’s subjectivity affects detection reliability, which is the main issue for forest-fire detection systems. In current systems, the process is tedious, and human operators must manually validate many false alarms. Our approach—the False Alarm Reduction system—proposes an alternative realtime infrared–visual system that overcomes this problem. The FAR system consists of applying new infrared-image processing techniques and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), using additional information from meteorological sensors and from a geographical information database, taking advantage of the information redundancy from visual and infrared cameras through a matching process, and designing a fuzzy expert rule base to develop a decision function. Furthermore, the system provides the human operator with new software tools to verify alarms.

Of phenomena which much damage and irreparable import to forests and natural resources is the fire that each year, more than 100 fires occur in Iran and thousands of hectares of trees and plants eliminates. Given that fire risk is high in most parts of the world, full and continuous monitoring on this natural phenomenon, is essential. Use remote sensing is a way to identify and manage fire. Ahe...
متن کاملForest Fire Detection by Satellites for Fire Control
Infrared sensors on board satellites have been widely used to collect statistics on fires, but not for fire control. Since the polar-orbiting satellites cover the northern Earth latitudes several times a day, their data are particularly suitable for detecting boreal forest fires. Currently, radiometers on board NOAA and ERS-2 satellites are used for operational fire management in Finland. Telef...

Robust small target detection of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is very important in infrared search and track applications for self-defense or attacks. Due to the complex background, current algorithms have some unsolved issues with false alarm rate. In order to reduce the false alarm rate, an infrared small target detection algorithm based on saliency detection and support vector machine was...

Applications of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) can be found anywhere from small manufacturing plants to major military operations. The inherited scalability and robustness of WSN make them an indispensible component in systems designed to monitor and communicate field data over large areas. While rural fire detection systems can most certainly benefit from these innate features of WSN, there are...
